April 22-23, 2019 ~ From the Heart to the Lens Workshop: Photographing Tulips at Longwood Gardens (Kennett Square, PA)
Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA may be the closet thing to the tulips blooming at Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse (South Amsterdam), the Netherlands. The variety and volume of blooms is incredible and it is a feast for the human eye as well as the eyes of the soul that see beauty in a completely different way. The goal of this hands-on Workshop is to teach you to capture that beauty.
To celebrate these fabulous flowers, my Tulip Workshop will be held at the height of the Tulip blooming season, April 22-23, 2019.
This is a “hands-on” workshop. I will instruct on using a variety of lenses (macro telephoto and traditional lenses with extension tubes) to photograph flowers along with a variety of techniques to ensure you capture your flowers in a way that touches your heart in a very special way. We will work outside in the gardens where the Tulips abound but there are also wonderful flowers inside the Conservatory that are deserving of our time and attention.
As we photograph, I will teach you “best practices” for capturing not only Tulips but a variety of other flowers. The best thing I can give you is the ability to “see” the finished image before you approach a flower you want to photograph. Elements of photography like f/stop, depth-of-field, shoot-thru, in-camera effects and the use of reflectors/diffusers will be explained and demonstrated in the group and reinforced one-on-one with you.
There will be two hands-on photography sessions available each day. The morning session (Session A: 9:00 am to noon) will concentrate on “seeing” your subject using a macro and/or telephoto lenses, choosing an appropriate flower subject, approaching the subject to photograph it, using natural light with diffusers and reflectors, and how to dial-in your camera settings to capture the flower.
The afternoon session (Session B: 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm) will concentrate on more advanced camera techniques including double-exposure, capturing water droplets, using a Lensbaby (Velvet 56, 85 or Optic Swap System) along with using creative angles, backgrounds and lighting techniques to capture your flower subject.
Each session is limited to 4 attendees so that there is ample time to work individually with each attendee.
An After-Shoot Webinar
If you are interested in attending a 90-minute “live” online webinar approximately 2 weeks after the workshop, you may also sign up for that. I will solicit photographs from attendees and work with to images to teach enhancement techniques in Adobe Camera Raw/Lightroom and Photoshop. There is a $45 fee for the webinar. The webinar will remain online for 30 days so that you can go back and re-watch the techniques I will be teaching.
When you sign-up you will be able to choose what sessions you want to attend on what day. Each session is $129 and taking both sessions in the same day is $225. You may take the same session twice or one session one day and the other session on a different days. The choice is yours and we encourage you to choose what fits best with your comfort level and budget.
Payment in full is required upon sign-up to ensure your participation in this Photography Workshop. Admission into Longwood Gardens is also required. We may be able to secure a discount for the Group and more information will follow.
