A 3 Day Hands-On, Photography Workshop at Swan Island Dahlia Farm, Canby, Oregon and Haystacks Rock, Cannon Beach, Oregon
Swan Island Dahlia Farms in Canby, Oregon is clearly the best place to photograph Dahlias in the United States and possibly the world. The variety and volume of Dahlias is incredible and I believe I could spend weeks photographing the amazing specimens that grow here.
From September 11th through 13th, 2019, I will be leading a group of individuals (maximum of 8) to photograph with me at Swan Island and Cannon Beach, both in Oregon. We will all arrive on September 10, 2019, have a dinner together and spend time reviewing composition and camera settings for the Dahlia photoshoot the next morning.
We will photograph each morning from 7:45 -10:15 am and each afternoon from 4:00 to 6:30 pm, weather permitting. During the day, we will do a photo-review with helpful hints on improving composition and some “how-to’s” for post-processing. On one afternoon (to be determined by weather condition), we will forgo the Dahlia photography and head to Cannon Beach about 1pm so we are there in ample time to setup for photographing the Haystack Rock at sunset.
Lensbaby will be sending us evaluation lenses for the group to try-out. This is a splendid opportunity to tryout the most sought after flower photography lenses at no cost. If you decide that you would like to purchase a lens, Lensbaby will offer a 10% discount when you purchase directly through them.
I am available to pick you up at the airport at no additional cost on September 10, 2019 at 4:45 pm, so if you can arrange your flight arrival between 3:15 pm and 4:00 pm, you can travel to the hotel with me. If that pickup time does not work for your scheduled arrival, you will need transportation to the hotel and I would suggest Uber or Lyft. I will be returning to the airport with a 5:45 am departure time from the hotel on Saturday, September 14, 2019. Again, you may ride with me at no additional cost as I drop off the passenger van and get the shuttle to the airport.
I am staying at The DoubleTree by Hilton in Vancouver, WA – about a 10 minute drive from the airport. Room rates are running about $185/night plus tax for double occupancy, so if you are going with a friend, it’s $92.50/night plus tax to share a double blue room. Note: you may book a hotel on your own, but you will be responsible to meet with the group prior to departure each day at 7:00 am.
Hands-On photography guidance and review of images throughout the Workshop. Transportation from Portland International Airport to the hotel on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 @ 4:45 pm, daily transportation to Swan Island and return to the hotel, transportation to Canon Beach and return to hotel, and return transportation to Portland International Airport at 5:45 am on Saturday, September 14, 2019.
What’s NOT Included:
Your other financial responsibilities will be for your hotel stay, food, your own transportation if you so desire, other incidentals to be purchased at your discretion, and transportation from your home town to the Portland International Airport (PDX) or The DoubleTree by Hilton in Vancouver, WA and return. I would also encourage you to purchase trip cancellation insurance.
The Photography Workshop fee is $795, and includes hands-on photographic training, image review and transportation as described above. A non-refundable deposit of $350 is required to book this Workshop and the balance of $445 is due July 11, 2019. You will be billed on July 11, 2019 for $445 and payment is due upon receipt.
